Got some advice from the Vespa.org.uk forum and a short detour to Machine mart on the way home picked up a nice shiny 3 legged puller. clamped it on under a fin and a couple of turns on the big bolt and the flywheel leapt off the shaft. Now back to try and identify what iI've got here 6v, 12v, AC or DC ???? who knows not being an expert on these, i'll write it on with a sharpy once I find out.
